Outdoor Ed
September 26 - 28
To ease the transition to middle school, Burleigh Manor will take the entire sixth grade on a three-day outdoor education trip to Sandy Hill Camp in North East, Maryland. We will go from September 26 – 28. We will leave at approximately 8am on Wednesday, September 26 and return around 1:30pm on Friday, September 28.

The students will be immersed in learning about the nature that surrounds them, as well as building relationships with their new peers.

Outdoor Ed is by far the fondest memory for all of our middle school students. They wish they could go back every year!

Who?
THE ENTIRE SIXTH GRADE and YOU

We invite the entire sixth grade to go to Sandy Hill. That means we are taking approximately 250 kids! To take this many kids, we need your help. That means about 50 chaperones! If you are interested in helping out, please email us.

Why?
EXTENDING THE CURRICULUM

There are many reasons why we go to Outdoor Ed each year with our students. It is a program that Howard County has been running in each middle school for years. Not only do we extend the curriculum by providing hands on experiments and experiences with the outdoors and team building, but the students also receive 25 service hours to their high school graduation (you need 75 to graduate).

How?
A LOT OF HARD WORK!

There are quite a few components that go into a trip of this magnitude.

1. Food: Food will be provided by Sandy Hill. For the most part, they can accommodate allergies and meat choices. Please let Burleigh know if you have any concerns.

2. Cabins: There are boys cabins and girls cabins on separate sides of camp. There are about 10-12 students per cabin.

3. Medicine: See paperwork!
